Coffee Roasters United is a group of small shops that roast working together to deliver unique, exclusive coffee at competitive prices. Each coffee we offer is the culmination of careful cupping, planning, and organization, and represents our commitment to each other and to the talented farmers, sourcers, exporters, and importers who make top quality coffee their life's work.
We knew our last coffee, the Santa Maria, would be a tough act to follow. So you can imagine our relief when we found La Botija, the hidden treasure of San Marcos de Colon, Honduras. As you can see from the map, the Botija is grown near the border of Nicaragua surrounded by national wildlife sanctuaries. What the satellite can't show you are the fields of flowers and pine forest groves that fill the hills and valley floor with the smell of drying oranges and sap. The 10 small farms above 1,500 meters that compose the Botija have distilled that smell into their coffee: orange blossom, vanilla, and a brilliant clarity best describe the cup.
But we would never have heard of this coffee were it not for the efforts of one of the best coffee sourcers, Sustainable Harvest. Sustainable has been increasingly focused on the Portland micro-roaster market, and we could not have picked a better time to work with them. Their dedication to the small farms that compose the Botija and all of their many relationships across the world made selecting this coffee an absolute pleasure.
La Botija is available from the following roasters:
